As winter approaches, many of you may be starting to look for outerwear.

Let’s begin by examining the name "bomber jacket."
The term "bomber" refers to a "bomb," which may sound a bit odd when translated literally—"bomb jacket"—but there is an interesting story behind it. The jacket actually has its origins in military attire.
This is the "MA-1" flight jacket, originally worn by the U.S. Air Force in cold weather conditions. In Japan, the ALPHA brand jackets are especially well-known!
Some of the key features of this jacket include its short length, which prevents it from obstructing movement, and its roomy sleeves with ribbed cuffs and hem. It also has minimal decoration—such as a pen holder and a small cigar pocket—so that nothing would catch on objects in tight spaces like an aircraft. Furthermore, the jacket is made from water-repellent nylon, a practical choice for use at high altitudes where freezing moisture could pose a danger.
Since this jacket was worn by pilots of bomber aircraft, it came to be known as a "bomber jacket."
Now, our bomber jackets are based on the MA-1 design, with the following features:
Short length
Ribbed cuffs and hem
Roomy sleeves
The main differences are that the silhouette is slightly more tailored and stylish compared to the MA-1. The design has been simplified by omitting some details, such as the cigar pocket. However, the most notable change is the use of original fabrics such as denim, sashiko, and more!
While the original MA-1 was made for extreme altitudes, our jackets use cotton fabrics, which are ideal for everyday wear.
In addition to the classic denim, this season we also offer jackets made from sashiko and herringbone tweed denim, which lend a unique texture to the garment.
Bomber jackets are versatile and relatively easy to style, so having one in your wardrobe can really enhance your outfit options!
Now, let’s take a look at some styling suggestions for the bomber jacket!
First up, the classic denim bomber jacket.
- 13oz Denim Bomber Jacket
Color: ID, Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL
This jacket pairs perfectly with JBJE1504 loose-fit jeans for a casual denim-on-denim look. Since both the top and bottom are indigo, it could appear a bit heavy, so I suggest adding a bright-colored inner layer and shoes to balance the outfit.
Next, here’s a great option for office wear.
- Herringbone Tweed Denim Bomber Jacket
Color: DID, Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL
The herringbone bomber is an excellent choice for your autumn and winter commutes. Its subtle colors, soft fabric, and insulated lining make it ideal for the season. You can wear just a shirt underneath, and if you wish to wear it outside your suit, I would recommend choosing a slightly larger size. This jacket is one of my top recommendations for office wear.
Lastly, here’s a sashiko-style bomber jacket, which is especially popular in our Shibuya store. It also looks fantastic on women!
- Sashiko Bomber Jacket
Color: DID, Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL
The raised dot pattern on this jacket gives it a textured, almost fluffy appearance. As it is dyed in indigo, you will also be able to enjoy the natural aging process of the fabric!
As I enjoy brighter outfits, I paired this bomber jacket with white sashiko pants for a chic sashiko-on-sashiko look!
These are the three bomber jacket styles I have introduced.
