We have selected four types of denim fabrics, each with unique characteristics.
We will introduce their features, fading, and staff impressions.
HARD DENIM
SELVEDGE 14.8oz
This is the quintessential hard denim that defines 'Jeans'. With the weave packed to the limit, it retains its hardness and easily develops fades and creases.
SOFT DENIM
SELVEDGE 12.5oz
Soft and easy-to-wear denim. At 12.5oz, it’s not too thick, making it suitable for year-round wear. Highly recommended for women as well.

Q. Why did you choose this fabric?
I wanted to thoroughly raise and enjoy the fading of denim after a long time, so I opted for hard denim that promises distinctive fading.
Q. What are your impressions and how does it feel to wear?
Honestly, at first, I thought it was a bit of a wild horse. (Laughs) It was as stiff as old rigid denim, making it quite a struggle to fasten the front button. However, within a week, it conformed to my body shape, and I no longer felt any discomfort. By the way, I haven’t washed it yet.
The sturdy fabric seems to cover my body shape well, and since I started wearing hard denim jeans, I often get complimented with, "Your legs look long.
Q. Any recommended points or preferred silhouettes?
I recommend enjoying the contrast between the initial wear and the eventual comfort. I believe you will feel, "Ah, it’s really fitting now," once you wear it.
I especially recommend it to those like me who have a lazy body with age. I want to become a stylish old man who wears jeans with beautifully faded hard denim and a well-toned body. However, a little leniency is necessary, so I suggest the classic straight fit. Even without working out, you can achieve great fading just by wearing them consistently.
Fading Sample
Hard denim worn almost daily for three years has distinctive, vintage-like fading. Although the backknee whisker are not very pronounced due to the oversized fit, the hard, high-density fabric shows clear fading and creases. This denim is recommended for those who want to achieve significant fading similar to vintage clothes.

Q. Why did you choose this fabric?
I was curious about how 12.5oz denim would fade since I had mostly worn high-ounce denim until now, so I decided to try it myself.
Q. What are your impressions and how does it feel to wear?
What I feel is that it is soft and easy to wear. It’s not just soft but also has a solid fabric feel, providing a good sense of wearing. Even for those who like high-ounce fabrics, it might not feel lacking. It has a moderate thickness, making it easy to wear year-round and comfortable even indoors. However, compared to high-ounce fabrics, it seems less prone to wrinkles and creases, which might be a bit lacking for those seeking pronounced fading. Also, it might feel a bit cold in winter, though that might be due to the store being cold. (Laughs)
Q. Any recommended points or preferred silhouettes?
It’s easy to wear year-round and comfortable, so for those overwhelmed by the numerous JAPAN BLUE JEANS fabrics, the soft denim is a safe choice. As mentioned earlier, it's comfortable enough for indoor wear, making it a good companion for remote work. I confidently recommend the soft denim to those who are hesitant or trying Japanese selvedge denim for the first time.
Fading Sample
Soft denim selvedge worn for two years has natural fading due to its original brown cotton. Despite the softer 12.5oz fabric, the slim silhouette still shows noticeable aging changes like whiskers. It’s a great choice for those who want easy-to-wear denim with good fading.

Q. Why did you choose this fabric?
I had only worn 100% cotton jeans from JAPAN BLUE JEANS, so I wanted to try stretch jeans this time.
Q. What are your impressions and how does it feel to wear?
The most notable aspect is how easy it is to move. I hadn’t paid much attention before since I only wore 100% cotton jeans, but I really feel the flexibility when crouching or sitting in the store. Although it seems less prone to fading compared to 100% cotton jeans, the fabric is just right for year-round wear, and it’s comfortable even in various situations.
Q. Any recommended points or preferred silhouettes?
The ease of movement is the biggest highlight, making it ideal for those who prioritize comfort and flexibility. The fabric is not too thick, so it's also suitable for summer wear. Given its excellent comfort and ease of wear, I recommend it in tapered or slim silhouettes. It’s great for those who want a fitted look even if they’re muscular.
Fading Sample
Even though the stretch selvedge denim has only been worn for a year, it shows clear aging changes. The slim silhouette results in noticeable whiskers while still retaining some indigo, showcasing the unique glossy fading of stretch denim. It’s a good choice for those who want comfort without excessive fading.

Q. Why did you choose this fabric?
My JBJ journey began with 14.8oz American cotton (hard denim), and during my time as a sales staff, I mostly chose heavy-ounce jeans. I wanted to try something different, and with increased desk work, I sought jeans with a more comfortable feel.
Q. What are your impressions and how does it feel to wear?
At first, the Suvin Gold’s distinctive glossy appearance gave a refined impression. The soft texture made me unconsciously stroke the surface (laughs). As it breaks in, it becomes soft and supple, with fading that enhances its appeal. While it doesn’t have the sharp contrasts of hard denim, the relaxed fit allows for broad wrinkles and enjoyable aging.
Q. Any recommended points or preferred silhouettes?
This denim overturns the notion that jeans must be "hard" or "difficult to wear." Its softness allows for various silhouettes without feeling out of place. As someone who is drawn to rarity and exclusivity, the Suvin Gold’s appeal is particularly strong. It’s best worn with a roll-up to show off the blue selvedge.
Fading Sample
After 1.5 years of wear, the Suvin Gold denim shows soft and gradual fading. The smooth fabric results in less pronounced whiskers, but noticeable fading in high-movement areas like the knees. This denim combines comfort with the joy of aging.
